Alison Gibbs Fox

Alison Gibbs Fox, 46, passed away September 13, 2017 after a short battle with her second bout with breast cancer. She was born November 7, 1970 to James Owen and Phyllis (Ewer) Gibbs. Her mother preceded her in death in 2014.
On May 10, 1999, Alison married the love of her life, and her best friend, Craig Fox. He survives her. To their union, they were blessed with three amazing children, Isabel Frances (15), Willow Audrey (14), and Ebba Catherine Fox (11). Also left to cherish her memory are: her father, James Gibbs of Evanston, IL; her sister, Margaret (Joel) Lipman of Evanston, IL; niece and nephews, Hannah, Joshua and Jacob Lipman; her mother-in-law, Cathy Fox of Mishawaka; and father-in-law, Dennis Fox of Bremen.
In 1992, Alison graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received her doctor of law degree in 1995 from Northwestern University School of Law. She was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1995. Alison began her legal career working as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert L. Miller, Jr. in South Bend, Indiana. After her clerkship, Alison worked as an employment law attorney at Faegre Baker Daniels for nearly 18 years. Alison developed deep relationships with her clients and her colleagues. She was universally admired for her brilliant legal mind and also loved for her compassionate and giving spirit as a friend and a colleague. She dedicated countless hours providing legal guidance without charge to the most in need. She worked with the National Immigrant Justice Center to assist immigrant families seeking asylum in the United States. She also worked locally with the Family Justice Center to help victims of domestic violence obtain protective orders against their abusers. She served on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County and spent several years coaching the Adams High School mock trial teams. Alison was a long-time member of the St. Joseph County Bar Association's Pro Bono Committee and the Robert A. Grant Inn of Court. Alison also served on FaegreBD's Pro Bono and Community Service Advisory Group and Leadership Council of the Women's Forum for Achievement.
Alison was a loving and devoted wife and mother. To all who knew her, she was kind and compassionate. She enjoyed antiquing, sewing home decor, knitting hats, baking her famous cinnamon rolls, and attending her girls' sporting events and school activities. As part of her daily activities, Alison always made sure to teach important life lessons to her girls. Most of all, Alison loved spending time with her family. She cherished time spent on Eagle Lake with her family and vacations to Butano Canyon in northern California. Alison will be remembered for her profound love of her family, her strong work ethic, generosity, honesty, strength, and courage.
A visitation to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, September 17th from 2-4 p.m. at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd.
