Antonia (Toni) Wise of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away at the age of 98 on August 3, 2023 from natural causes. She was born October 13, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio, the youngest of eight children of the late Anton and Mary (Blatnik) Boldin. She grew up in the Slovenian community developing in Cleveland at the time, learned the trade of dressmaking at Jane Adams Vocational School and then supported the war effort installing armatures in motors at Reliance Electric.
Antonia was married to Anthony (Tony) Wise at St. Lawrence church in Cleveland, Ohio on October 27, 1945. She was a devoted mother of six baby boomer children, became an accomplished homemaker and seamstress, and enjoyed vegetable gardening. Toni and Tony enjoyed a long retirement together while residing in Mission Viejo, CA and then Spring Valley, OH. She traveled to Slovenia during this period to visit her mother’s relatives. Her golden years were spent living in Bozeman with daughter Tara, then Las Vegas near sons John and Steven and most recently at Hubbard Hill Retirement Community in Elkhart.
Left to cherish her memory are four children: John (Michelle Rose) Wise of Las Vegas, NV, Steven Wise of Las Vegas, NV, Douglas Wise of Granger, IN, and Tara Wise of Bozeman, MT; seven grandchildren: Victoria Lasky, Katy (Wise), Delaney Quinn, Logan Sigler and Audrey and Aidan Wise; five great-grandchildren: Julia, Danielle, Joseph, David and DyLynn Lasky; sister-in-law, Carmen Wise, and her dearest childhood and life-long friend, Agnes Koporc, whom she’d known since the age of 14 when they met at vocational school and church.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 16, 2003; sons, Anthony (September 25, 2007) and Donald (July 14, 2008); grandson Anthony (July 29, 2023); and siblings Anton, Joseph, Lawrence, Louis, Mary, Anna, and Josephine.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, August 14, 2023, from 2-3:30 p.m. followed by a Vigil at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, Granger, IN, enter off Cherry Rd.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St. Elkhart, at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior.
Memorial contributions can be made to Southern Care Hospice Services in Mishawaka, Indiana or Hubbard Hill in Elkhart, Indiana.
