South Bend — Arlene Schulman, 82, passed away unexpectedly after complications during heart surgery on Monday, in Indianapolis, IN. Arlene was born in the Bronx, NY to Louis and Sophie Kalish on Aug. 9, 1936.
Mrs. Schulman was blessed with 2 children, a son, Lloyd Schulman of Granger, IN , and daughter; Stephanie Schulman of Miami, FL. She was also blessed with 2 grand-daughters; Stacie Schulman and Tori Schulman and a nephew; Louis Sadowsky, and niece; Nadine Sadowsky who all survive her.
Arlene was an avid freelance writer. She wrote children’s books, and even tried to produce a musical, which she loved. She was fluent in Spanish and worked as a translator for Lederle Laboratories in New York. She lived in New York and Florida most of her life. She moved to South Bend to be near her son Lloyd. While living in South Bend she worked in advertising for local restaurants. Arlene was also very involved in the Hebrew Orthodox Synagogue here in South Bend.
It seemed everyone knew Mrs. Schulman and will be missed by many.
Mrs. Schulman will be laid to rest next to her parents in New York.
