Barry Baumbaugh

October 31, 1953 — September 21, 2016

Barry Baumbaugh, 62, passed away unexpectedly September 21, 2016 after suffering a massive heart attack.
Barry was born in Fort Wayne, IN on October 31, 1953 to the late William Edward and Vella Mae (Smith) Baumbaugh. On May 30, 1987, Barry married the love of his life and his best friend, Carole "Kelly" Havens. He was blessed with four sons: Tad, Brandyn, Travis and Randy and is also survived by his brother Alan Baumbaugh of Syracuse with whom he was very close.
Barry was a man of many talents. A devoted father and husband, he enjoyed cooking, canning, wine making, rebuilding his Triumph motorcycle, and tinkering. Intelligent and well read, he was politically active, serving as president of Citizens for Common Sense. Barry was also an instructor for the Civil Air Patrol, a retired Harris Township (now Clay Fire) Firefighter, and an EMT. He worked as a research engineer for high energy physics at the University of Notre Dame for nearly 40 years. An outdoorsman, Barry loved hunting and fishing, and recently took up bee-keeping.
Church and community were very important; he was an active member and worship leader at New Salem United Methodist Church. He held to strong values of personal responsibility, respect for others, preservation of our constitutional rights, and always extending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. His unexpected loss leaves a great void in the hearts of many. He will be dearly missed, but his family knows that he is in heaven with his two dogs, Trapper and Trace, hunting ducks - and actually seeing some.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:30 - 7:30PM at New Salem United Methodist Church, 52173 Ash Rd., Granger, IN 46530. Funeral services, with a brief bell service being conducted by the Fire Department Honor Guard, will be Tuesday at the church at 10:30AM. Pastor Michael Jenkins will be officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Salem United Methodist Church.
