Bernard William Dobrzykowski 77, died peacefully after fighting heart disease for over 20 years on August 14, 2024. Bernie was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Bernard Dobrzykowski and Doris (Heinze) Grabowski on January 31, 1947.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Terri; daughters, Doria Spangle, Dena (Nick) Thoman; brother, Mike (Joyce) Darby: 8 nieces and 5 nephews on the east coast.
Bernie graduated from Baltimore Polytechnical Institue, achieved Machinist at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, and graduated from Loyola Univeristy, MD, earning a bachleor’s degree in Accounting.
Bernie was a member of Maryland National Guard, activated during the 1968 riots in Baltimore.
Bernie was a newspaper boy as a young man, machinist, auditor, and held many positions in business for 16 years. Bernie’s favorite job came when he took an early retirement and became a stay-at-home Dad, back when it wasn’t as popular as it is today, in 1993. He took very seriously his jobs as homemaker, landscaper, pool boy, maintenance man, and loved most of all, DAD.
Bernie played softball as long as he was physically able to do so. He loved American Military History. His main interest was the American Revolutionary War. He participated in the 1976 Bicentennial reenactments in the northeast. He was a huge sports fan. His teams include the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens, Loyola Lacrosse, and Notre Dame sports.
There will be a celebration of life for Bernie at Corby’s Irish Pub on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 1-3 pm.
