Beverly Hannah Brooks

July 16, 1923 — October 1, 2016

Beverly Hannah (Fisher) Brooks passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Dujarie House Rehabilitation Center at the age of 93.
Born July 16, 1923, Beverly was raised in Chicago by Polish and Lithuanian parents, Ida and Abraham Fisher. She had an older brother, Sigmund, and is survived by her younger brother Gerald Fisher (Toby Fisher).
In 1947, Beverly married Joseph Brooks, who passed away in 1980. They had two children, Allan and Barbara. During their time together Beverly and her husband had several businesses, including the Windmill Bakery and Restaurant in Elkhart. They were both members of the Sinai Synagogue and Temple Beth-El.
She loved to travel, and did so throughout the years with her husband Joe and friends. Her most beloved place was Italy. She said she admired the spirit of the people and the beauty of the country.
Outliving her husband by 36 years, in Beverly’s words, she was able to have “a whole other life”. She was always active and worked until almost the age of 90 in several jobs, including 1st Source Bank and the Snite Museum. Having an excellent business sense and commitment to serving others, she also worked in her son’s caregiving business.
Beverly was a devoted mother, loved her friends and family, and became a model grandmother. She was important and influential in the lives of her grandchildren, Joseph, Sara, and Jaclyn. She would often cook for them and treat them to movies, day trips, and sleepovers.
Beverly lived a full life. Always active, with a curious mind, she was constantly reading, learning, working and active in the community. A consummate Scrabble player that enforced the rules, she never lost her vitality or sense of humor. She loved her family and friends – the feelings were mutual. She will be missed.
Funeral services and burial took place Sunday, October 2, at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made, in Beverly’s name, to the Snite Museum of Art,100 Moose Krause Cir, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
