Carolyn Kay Dobski was born on July 31, 1941 and passed away on July 4, 2021.
Carolyn was a lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana and graduated from The Saint Joseph High School in South Bend in 1959. She became a medical transcriptionist after high school at the original Saint Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana, and held that position after she was married until February of 1963. She cherished her life of being a homemaker and raising her children. She considered herself lucky to be able to watch her grandchildren daily, and she took pride in getting each of them ready for the academia of kindergarten.
Carolyn was a Team Leader and Group Leader for the Camp Fire Girls for many years for her daughters and also was a Cub Scout leader for her son’s Cub Scout den. Once her nest was empty Carolyn took a job at Meijer on Portage Road working in the deli and cheese shop. The highlight of her days while working there was when she got to see family and friends when they came in to do their grocery shopping. Carolyn’s favorite job was always being a medical transcriptionist. She returned to the field of medical transcription for a local physician for 12 years until the office closed in 2015. Carolyn also enjoyed helping out at her daughter’s paintball field in Niles, Michigan, where she was affectionately called “grandma” by the players and refs. Carolyn was an avid milk glass collector having amassed thousands of pieces during her lifetime. She loved hunting for a piece of milk glass that she did not have at local garage and estate sales. Her milk glass collection got to be on display in her new home when she moved in with her daughter for her final years.
A Catholic mass of celebration will be held in Carolyn’s honor at a future date at Christ The King Catholic church in South Bend, Indiana. To send private condolences, please visit www.McGannHay.com
