Craig Campbell MacNab, 76 of South Bend, IN, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016, with his family by his side in Memorial Hospital after a fall in his home. He was born in 1939, in Rochester, NY, to the late Donald H. and Hilda J. (née McKerrow) MacNab.
Craig grew up in Rochester, NY. He earned a BFA-cum laude in Drama from Ithaca College, in 1962. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963 and commissioned as an officer in 1964. He earned a Master's Degree in English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975. He served 24 years with distinction and retired a Lieutenant Colonel. He was very proud of the time spent teaching literature at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. While there he founded the Cadets Fine Arts Forum. Upon retiring from the Army, he worked at AM General as the Director of Public Relations for 19 years. Craig was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. He was very active in theater throughout his lifetime. He loved the local theater community. His most recent performance was as Caesar Rodney in the SBCT production of 1776.
He is survived by his wife, Michele L. (née Meredith) MacNab, South Bend, IN; his five daughters and two sons; Heather MacNab Blush, three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; Danielle R. (Robert) Basham and one grandson; Lorna K. (Stephen) Bradshaw and two granddaughters; Richard W. (Heather) Abbott and two grandsons; Clare E. MacNab; Amanda G. (Robert) Lyons and two grandsons; and Maj. Ian A. (Courtney) MacNab, and two grandsons. He is also survived by his brother Malcolm W. (Karen) MacNab, a niece and nephew; his sister, Caroline Doerfert; his mother-in-law, Marcelle Meredith; a host of loving in-laws, and many long-time friends.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 4, 2016, at South Bend Civic Theater, 403 N Main Street, South Bend, IN 46601 from 6 - 9 pm.
He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date.
