SOUTH BEND- After a life well lived, Daniel N. Nespo, 91, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2022. Born on December 2, 1930 in Long Beach, Indiana, he was the son of the late Frank and Martha (Firanek) Nespo. His brother, Fran Nespo; and grandson also preceded him in death.
On August 28, 1954, Daniel married the love of his life, Doris Gannon who preceded him in death in 2007. They were blessed with four children; Dianne (Joseph) Nyerges, Cindy (Rich) Agan, Chris Nespo and Michael Nespo. He is also survived by two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Daniel graduated from Elston High School in 1948 where he was active in baskeball, baseball, and tennis, and was voted "honorable mention" for All-State Honors in Indiana for basketball. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served in Panama during the Korean War. Upon returning, he attended the University of Notre Dame where he was captain of the baseball team for four years and played basketball, obtaining a Bachelors and Masters degree in Fine Arts.
Dan was a loving and devoted husband and father. He had a great sense of humor, had a strong faith in God, and was a successful salesman for over 52 years. He had many hobbies including building airplanes and ship models, gardening, tennis, and later in life enjoyed making puzzles. He was a long time parishioner of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 14, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Military honors will follow the Mass. Masks will be required in the church.
