Dolores Theresa McCarty, age 82, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on February 10, 2022. After being cancer-free for five years, her family was heartbroken to receive the news that her cancer had recurred, and a short three weeks later Dolores went home to be with Jesus.Dolores was born on April 2,1939 in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Harriet Ornat. On January 1, 1957, Dolores married Donald C. Niedbalski and they had two children, Suzanne and Christopher. Donald died only a year and a half later in 1958 from a car accident, leaving Dolores a young widow. With perseverance and strength and her strong faith to guide her, Dolores went on to raise their two children on her own for the next ten years, even attending House of James Cosmetology School.On November 9, 1968, Dolores married Clouise "Todd" McCarty and they remained married for 50 years until Todd's death in April 2019.Dolores loved playing cards, especially euchre, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved trying new recipes and would hand-write each one out; she amassed a collection of over 100 recipes. She was well known for her macaroni and potato salads at family gatherings. She loved planting flowers and making things beautiful. When she was younger, Dolores loved to go dancing and would often tell stories of how she and her girlfriends would dance all night at the dance halls.Dolores was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary every night. She loved her family more than anything and always looked forward to family gathering where she could visit with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dolores had a loving, active sprit, and her absence will leave a hole in our hearts and lives. She will be greatly missed. Dolores is survived by her children, Suzanne (the late Bruce) Coates and Christopher (Jessica) Niedbalski, all of Granger; grandchildren, Courtney (Brad) Boehm of Toledo, Ohio, Megan (Matt) Brown of Mishawaka, Heather (Mike) Lapara of Osceola, and Ryan Strzelecki of Granger; and 8 great-grandchildren: Chloe, Joey, Evan, Gabi, Chris, Brayden, Noah, and Zach.A Memorial Mass for Dolores will take place on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 1:30pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger.
