Don McCarty, Sr., 87, entered into eternal rest on October 25, 2018.
Born July 15, 1931, he was the son of the late Louis and Georgia (Richmond) McCarty. His brother, John McCarty; and sister, Juanita Fisher, also preceded him in death.
On August 1, 1949, Don married the love of his life, Jeanette Ruth Miltenberger. She survives him. To their union, they were blessed with four children: Georgia Stopper of South Bend, Donald Jr. (Pam) McCarty of Niles, and Darlene “Jackie” (Daniel) McDowell and Cheryl McCarty, both of South Bend. Also left to cherish his memory are eight grandchildren: Melissa, Corkie, Bill, Kim, Jason, Christy, Eddie and Jeanette; brother, Tody (Delores) McCarty of Granger; 21 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was a born entertainer and loved people. Whether he was impressing with his singing voice, or walking on his hands down a flight of stairs, he had the ability to make you happy. He was a devoted husband and father and always supported his children, even when he didn’t fully agree with their choices. He was the former owner of McCarty Richmond Sanitation; and after retirement, worked as a chauffeur at Gurley Leep. He lived his life to the fullest and is now in the peace that he deserves.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 30, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral taking place at 1:00 p.m., at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Center of Hospice Care.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff, especially Monica, at Signature Health and Rehab, for the great care and compassion they showed to Don.
