Donald Eugene Nehring, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday, July 27th. He was born and raised in Lake Station, IN where he graduated from River Forest High School, class of 1968. He worked at US Steel Gary Works for 30+ years before retiring to Lake Havasu, AZ. From Arizona he headed to Lake Charles, LA where his dreams of gulf fishing were cut short by Hurricane Rita, so he headed back to Indiana. His younger years were spent spelunking and enjoying caverns around the US, before turning into an avid fisherman, so-so golfer, table tennis terror and amazing cook. Don never met a meat or vegetable he couldn't cajole into something fantastic, except maybe the green pesto turkey one Thanksgiving. Always a voracious reader, there was rarely a subject he could not pontificate on, whether accurate or not was to be determined by the listeners. Don is survived by his wife, Peggy (Rose) Nehring of South Bend, IN; daughters, Melissa (Cory) Sickles of Columbus, OH and Eva Nehring (Jon Olsen) of Raleigh, NC; sister, Milena Baxter of Knox, IN and brother, Richard Nehring, of Carmel, IN; wife Peggy's children, Amy (Steve Walker) Rose-Walker, Lori and Jeff Rose and grandchildren Christina and Ethan Rose and Allison Walker. There will be a luncheon and remembrance gathering for friends and family on Saturday, September 10th, 2022 at the American Legion, 707 S Heaton St, Knox, IN 46534 at 12:00 PM (CST) / 1:00 PM (EST).To send private condolences, please visit: http://www.mcgannhay.com/condolences.html
