SOUTH BEND-Donald R. Tate, 81, passed away at home October 5, 2022, with loving family by his side.Born November 24, 1940, he was the son of the late Verdelous and Rosa Lee (Denton) Tate. He was also preceded in death by brothers Charles and Bob Tate and grandson Caden Carson.Left to cherish his memory are nine children: Sheryl Egyhazi(Bob Berndt), Diana(Sam) Weidner, Treasa (David) Stoltz, Donald (Teresa) Tate, Jeffery Tate( Julie Delacruz), Victor (Lisa) Medina, Daniel Medina, Claudia (Ryan) Asprion and Laura (Aaron) Witt; siblings:His twin Ronald(Alice) Tate, Jack(Linda) Tate, Jerry( Sherree) Tate, Susan( Bob) Malcom, and Donna Murphy; twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Donald was a devoted family man and a hard worker known fondly as Papa Smurf by those who loved him. He retired from Uniroyal after 35 years as a machine repair mechanic. He was also a proud Army Veteran that served in Berlin. Donald enjoyed spending his free time staying active with various hobbies such as softball, bowling, tennis, and enjoying cruises on his motorcycle. In addition to his various hobbies, Donald had a deep love of travel and adventure. Throughout his travels, he collected many unique experiences and stories that are cherished by his family. During Donald's retirement, you could always catch him enjoying quality time with family at his favorite local diners or cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting and life events. Donald spent his life always sharing an abundance of love and laughter with those around him.No services are taking place, per his request. He will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
