Dorothy J. White, 92, went home to her Heavenly Father on December 20, 2018.
Dorothy was born to the late Edward and Sadie (Harris) Smith on Sept. 28, 1926, in Moss Point, Mississippi.
In 1949, Dorothy married Webber White in South Bend, Indiana. Together, they raised their six children: Gregory (Cory) White of South Bend, Janet Robinson (Willie Boyd) of South Bend, Anthony White of Mishawaka, Mark White of South Bend, Jerry (Nadine) White of Las Vegas, and Ryan White also of Las Vegas. They all survive. Also left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are a brother-in-law, Kenneth Walker of Corona, CA; three nieces: Patricia (Chipper) Dempsey, Bernadette (Tom) Taylor, Marie (Bob) Chynoweth; a nephew, Kenneth (Lisa) Burke, Jr.; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her husband, Webber White; and three siblings: Marzzetta Burke, Edward Smith, and Phyllis Walker.
Mr. and Mrs. White were both very involved in Catholic adoption and organizations, as their two youngest children were adopted. Mrs. White ran a daycare out of her home for more than 35 years. She served as a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts, was a great cook, and was a long time member at St. Joseph Parish, South Bend. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.
The family would like to thank all the staff from Bell Tower, who took such good care of their mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 28, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at St. Joseph Parish, 226 N. Hill St., South Bend, IN 46617.
Memorial donations may be made, in Dorothy’s name, to St. Joseph Parish.
