Dr. Michael "Doc" Schuhknecht

Dr. Michael “Doc” Schuhknecht, 58, passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2023.

Born October 23, 1964 in Benton Harbor, MI, he was the son of Dean Schuhknecht and Sharron (Gegot) Kinel. His father preceded him in death. Doc was also preceded in death by his favorite dog and loving companion, Bella.

On June 2, 1992, Michael married the love of his life, Jennifer. Throughout their relationship, they shared 40 beautiful years together. To their union, they were blessed with 2 daughters, Mikaela (Randy Payne) Schuhknecht and Maya Schuhknecht, both of Buchanan. He is also cherished by his mother, Sharron, of Adrian, MI; his granddaughter, and the apple of his eye, Sophia Grace Payne; brother, Jeff (Pam) Schuhknecht of Portage, MI; sister, DeAnne Lewin of Adrian, MI; two beloved dogs, Puppy and Baby; and three horses, Twister, Scooter, and Red. He was also looking forward to being a Papa to his expected granddaughter, Sadie.

Doc, as many called him, was a gifted surgeon and was currently working for Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital in Niles. Prior to working in Niles, Doc started his career in Detroit. He also spent time impacting lives in other states like New York, as well as other countries around the world. He loved helping people and saved countless lives. He was a graduate of Bridgman High School and later Michigan State University. He received his medical degree and remained a proud Spartan for the rest of his life. Go Green, forever. He enjoyed working on the farm, spending time at Clear Lake, and watching Spartan Football, but more than anything, he loved spending time with his family.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m., with a visitation following from 5-7 p.m. at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family , for the purchase of Red Bud trees to create a memorial in his honor on the family farm. Please do not click on the link below (to plant a tree.) That is for something different.
