Eleanor Shirley (Bolender) Dedek passed away peacefully in her home on her 83rd birthday, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born July 18, 1934 in Felicity, OH to the late Herbert Joel and Genevieve Gertrude (Love) Bolender. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Arnold and Ralph Bolender.
On June 14, 1958, Eleanor married the love of her life, Joseph Dedek, with whom she shared 59 years. He survives in South Bend. To their union, they were blessed with four children: JoEllyn Kaye "Jody" (Jon) Arrowsmith of Granger, IN; Jane Ann (Samuel) Wachnin of Austin, TX; Jon Joseph Dedek of Santa Clara, CA and Katharine Sue (Richard Carlton) Dedek of Captain Cook, HI. Eleanor also leaves behind five grandsons: Jonathan Joseph Arrowsmith of Granger, IN and Christopher Ryan (Felicia) Arrowsmith of Mishawaka, IN; Aaron Michael, Adam Benjamin and Aiden Joseph "AJ" Wachnin of Austin, TX, two great grandchildren: Brielle Grace and Cohen Prescott Arrowsmith, a sister: Wanda Roe of Waverly, OH and by two brothers: Leon (Dorothy) Bolender of Mt Vernon, OH and Merrill (Donna) Bolender of Indianapolis, IN.
Eleanor was a very kind and loving person with a strong faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She taught music and first grade in the Brandywine schools in Niles, MI. She then devoted her life to raising her children, substituting occasionally. Eleanor taught kindergarten at Warren School in South Bend, IN after her children were grown. She was a talented seamstress who sewed her children's clothes when they were young; and she was a wonderful cook. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, and the grace she carried until the end will always be admired by her family.
A Memorial Service honoring Eleanor's life will be held at a later date.
