Elizabeth E. James, 98, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur A. James, who she married in 1943 in South Bend. They celebrated 71 years of marriage before his death in 2014.
Elizabeth graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s degree in art and worked as an art teacher for over 20 years.
She was a national and international award winning fine arts artist.
Further, she taught classes in museums, schools and workshops in the Heartland area for more than 20 years.
Elizabeth was also active in local art groups and served on the boards of the St. Joe Valley Watercolor society, the Northern Indiana Artists Inc., of which she was president emeritus, and the South Bend Museum of Art.
She was also a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years.
For a fun challenge she teamed up with her daughter, Andrea to write and illustrate children’s books, all of which were published.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Andrea L. James of South Bend and Bonnie Orszulak of Granger.
Funeral services for Elizabeth will take place on Monday, November 7 at the McGann Hay University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd., at 1p.m. with visitation beginning at noon. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
