Ethan Noah Marvel

May 25, 2003 — June 18, 2022

?Ethan Noah Marvel, 19, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 18, 2022, after fighting a courageous battle against addiction.?Ethan was born on May 25, 2003, in South Bend, Indiana, right at the stroke of midnight. From a young age, he loved video games, juice boxes, sushi, and all types of candy (especially the candy that nobody else seemed to enjoy). And although Ethan was a black belt in Taekwondo, his underlying personality was as gentle, caring, and loving as possible. Most notably, Ethan was a natural leader who always advocated for those who couldn't speak for themselves. His authentic, quiet demeanor made him popular among his peers, and he sincerely could not understand why; it never even occurred to him that he was popular. He listened well, was as generous with his possessions as he was with his heart, and had a humble ego that reflected his genuine personality. His loved ones will always remember his warm smile that welcomed in everybody who saw it. In brief, Ethan's love for and by others shined through him more than anything else. ?Ethan exemplified those innate, loving traits while a student at John Adams High School, where he competed on the swim and cross-country teams and graduated as part of the Class of 2021. After graduating, Ethan endeavored to enter the military as a full-time career. And as part of that preparation, Ethan courageously confronted an illness that affects so many people across the country: addiction. He decided to enter a treatment program at First City Recovery Center in Kokomo, Indiana, and while there, he successfully completed an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and worked at Executive Moving. What's more, Ethan formed a community of friends at First City-a family in bond if not by blood-whom he loved dearly. Ethan experienced first-hand just how impactful treatment centers can be for those who struggle with addiction, and he believed in and loved First City with all his heart.?Ethan is preceded in death by his DziaDzia Rex Marvel and Papa Bradley White. Ethan is survived by his mother, Kerri (Matt) Anderson; father, Anthony (Emily) Marvel; brothers, Gavin Anderson and Owen Anderson; sister, Logan Kosik; grandparents, Roberta White, Patricia Marvel, and Robert and Terri Kosik; aunts and uncles, Jennifer Marvel (Jeff Eberly), Stacie (Chris) VanLaere, Meredith (Lee) Coartney, Scott (Nicole) Kosik, Kristina (Ted) Uelk; and Stephen White; cousins, Brody Uelk, Aiden Uelk, Leo Uelk, Patrick Curran, Sean Curran, Madeline Curran, Jeffrey Curran, Olivia VanLaere, Colvin VanLaere, Evan Coartney, Ian Coartney, Reid Coartney, Garrett Coartney, Tyler Kosik, and Benjamin Kosik; and a large number of extended family.?A vigil at McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road), will take place on Friday, June 24, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Afterward, a viewing from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. will be held at the same location. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following morning on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, Indiana, with another viewing to occur one hour prior at 9:30 a.m. in the church. The Mass will be available, streaming online, at StPius.net and Facebook.com/St.PiusGranger, for those who are unavailable to attend in person.
