Gail Marie (Culp) Stutzman of Granger, IN, passed away peacefully at The Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka, IN, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Steve; three sons, David, Kevin, and Peyton; mother, June Culp; brother, Duane Culp; sister, Cheri (Tom) Gamble; her close friend and honorary daughter, Christy (Zachary) Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Culp.
Gail was born on January 1, 1968 in Sandusky, MI, and grew up on the missionary campgrounds in Brown City, MI, where her father served as the camp caretaker. She became very involved with the ministry of the camp; mowing lawns during the summer, volunteering as a camp counselor, and attending every camp session. As an adult, Gail, along with her husband, spent many summers either serving as part of the cafeteria staff for the annual camp meeting or as children’s evangelists for the camp preschool department. Brown City Camp was a special place to Gail and she impacted it as much as it impacted her.
Gail graduated as valedictorian from Brown City High School in 1986. She then attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN, graduating in 1990 with a degree in elementary education. While a student at Bethel, Gail worked in the business office where she was offered a full time position upon graduating. She eventually became the accounts payable manager at Bethel, a job she had to leave in 2019 when cancer made it difficult for her to continue working.
It was at Bethel where Gail met her husband, Steve, and the two of them were married on June 29, 1991. Of all the roles Gail served, her roles as wife and mom were her favorite. She loved to plan fun events for her family, which included birthday parties, beach trips, and family Christmas gatherings. Her love for her family was evident to all who knew her.
Gail was a member of Granger Missionary Church where she served on the worship team, led the children’s music ministry, assisted with children’s Bible quizzing, and helped at the annual Granger Children’s Resale. Her helpful spirit, strong work ethic, and never-ending loyalty made her an invaluable resource to the church and to every organization of which she was a part.
Gail was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Her bravery and unwavering faith helped her achieve victory over the cancer that tried to destroy her. Today she is celebrating with her Lord and Savior in heaven, completely whole, in perfect health, and playing the piano for an audience of One.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 29 from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm with the funeral beginning at 12:00 pm at Granger Missionary Church in Granger, IN. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Osceola, IN.
