Gavin Lee Blankenship passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022 after succumbing to a senseless act of gun violence. He was 14 years old. Gavin was born on April 18, 2008 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Toni (Hauer) Blankenship. She survives.Also surviving are Gavin's father, Rusty Garrod; siblings, Grace and Gage Blankenship, Ian, Kaden and Kegan Garrod; grandmother, Sheila Lucas; and aunt, Sarah and Andreas Schwager.Gavin was preceded in death by his grandmother, Patty Snyder.Gavin was a lover of life, a natural protector to his family and friends, they were all that mattered to him. He was a boy in a man's body, his mother's "little man." He was a fun loving prankster and jokester who loved to make people laugh. Gavin enjoyed playing football, basketball, baseball and going fishing. You could always find him riding his bike, skateboarding, or playing some kind of game with his family and friends. Gavin was an amazing artist and wanted to become a tattoo artist when he grew up.A giant hole has been left in the world with Gavin gone. He was a kind and caring soul who was taken too soon. He will be missed by many.Visitation for Gavin will take place at the McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, Granger, enter off Cherry Rd., on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 3-8 p.m. At 6:30 there will be a time of remembrance for anyone that would like to share a story about Gavin.
