Georgianna Sweeney, 79, died peacefully at home Saturday, July 30 at 3:15 p.m. surrounded by her loving husband and children.
Georgia, the youngest of 3 children, was born in Lima, Ohio, on July 21, 1937 to Margaret and Delbert Holmes. She graduated from University of Dayton with a degree in Education. She waspreceded in death by her parents.
On June 17, 1961, Georgia married Charles A. Sweeney, Jr. of South Bend, IN. Georgia met Charlie as a senior at University of Dayton. As newlyweds in South Bend, Georgia taught elementary school while Charlie attended law school. Georgia and Charlie were blessed with six children whom they raised in South Bend.
Georgia is survived by her husband, Charles A. Sweeney, Jr. of Granger, IN, and six children: Kelley (Gary) Sanders, of Denver, CO; Mary (John) Eugster, of San Francisco, CA; Susan (P.J.) Stoll of Attica, IN; Tom (Bridget) Sweeney of Southlake, TX; Maureen (Adam) Spielman of River Forest, IL; Kerry (Peter) Kuzmich of River Forest, IL and thirteen grandchildren: Tiffany Iung, Makena Eugster, Lilly Eugster, Jackson Stoll, Carly Stoll, Liam Sweeney, Joseph Sweeney, Charlotte Sweeney, Benjamin Spielman, Sara Spielman, Alex Spielman, Olivia Kuzmich and Charles Kuzmich. She is also survived by her brother, William (Jan) Holmes and by her sister, Josephine.
Georgia will always be remembered as the life of the party. She brought her intellect, wit and curiosity to every conversation. She found beauty in her garden, her home and her relationships. Georgia could always be counted on to make a person feel unique. Georgia was a sports fan who loved the Cubs and Notre Dame football. Most of all, she cherished her family. She showed us how to love and live well.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3rd, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 IN-933, South Bend, IN, 46637. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN.
Friends may call Tuesday August 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR23, enter off Cherry Rd., Granger, IN 46530, where the Holy Rosary will be prayed at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice Care, St. Vincent de Paul, or Christ Child.
