Gloria “Gogo” Newling

Gloria “GoGo” Newling went to heaven on October 5th, 2022, to be reunited with dear family and Jesus. She was born on October 20th, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana to Benjamin and Dorothy Schrader. She lived in South Bend and Mishawaka for most of her life. In 1968, she was blessed with her only child, Debbie, who was the apple of her eye. Her family grew as her daughter married Brian Hale and they had BJ and Angel Hale, her two grandchildren who brought her so much joy. She worked at Amsco in South Bend and Nyloncraft in Mishawaka, before finding her niche as a culinary salad specialist at Lincoln Highway Inn in Mishawaka, Holiday Inn in Kalamazoo, and Morris Inn at the University of Notre Dame. She enjoyed creating beautiful fruit sculptures and delicious salads for events at Morris Inn. After retiring, she was able to spend lots of quality time caring for her grandbabies. Her daughter nicknamed her “GoGo” when she started to talk because everyone would call her mom Gloria which Debbie couldn’t pronounce. Gloria became “GoGo” to everyone. She loved to play games with family and friends, like scrabble, rummy, and euchre. Gloria was one of Notre Dame Football’s biggest fans. She was loved by all, and we all loved her. She had a heart of gold. Gloria loved Jesus and would often pray with and sing gospel songs with others, even strangers. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church of Edwardsburg. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalms 18:2. “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower,” Gloria is survived by her daughter, and son-in-law, Debbie and Brian Hale; grandchildren, BJ Hale and Angel (Miere) Hale; siblings, Betty (Ed) Borlik, Mike (Barb) Schrader, Joe (Carmen) Schrader, Nancy (Jerry) Morris, Jim (Yvonne) Schrader and Janet Schrader. She was “Aunt GoGo” to all of her nieces and nephews and “Sister Gloria” to her church family. She had many lifelong friends especially Susie Kyle and Becky Eby. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Ruth, Theresa and Pat. Services will be held on Monday, October 10th, 2022, at First Pentecostal Church, 27341 US 12, Edwardsburg, Michigan. Visitation will take place from 10am-12pm with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana.
