Gloria left Sarasota and the sunshine state peacefully on the morning of January 24th, 2024. She was 94 years old.
Gloria (Resnick) Wolvos, beloved mother of Wendi Fogelson (Ed Mills), Merle (Bob) Gruesser, and Cindy Watts; and beloved step mother of, Sally (Frank) Durante and Tom (Debbie) Wolvos. She was the adoring grandmother of 9, Dori, Tova, Andrea, Jessica, Amanda, Brian, Mike, Alex and Hannah; and great grandmother of 12, Miles, Rainan, Chloe, Charlotte, River, Brielle, Logan, Lillian, Kallie, Kade, Jaxson and Maliah.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alex Wolvos, and her sister, Ruth Krawetz.
Gloria enjoyed life to the fullest, as a mother, wife and professional business woman. She was a trailblazer for women in the 60’s as the first female real estate broker in St. Joseph County and later the co-founder of Abshire Realty.
After marrying Alex, she joined him as part of Alexander’s Jewelry and became a certified gemologist.
Gloria loved traveling the world, collecting art, enjoying nature, golf, birds, and people-watching while sitting on her Riverside Drive patio, sipping her Glenlivet. Even in her last hours of awareness, people-watching was her passion, and she created a story about those that she saw but didn’t know, but thought she did! She never met a stranger, and talked to everyone. She was the epitome of a social animal. She had an incredible sense of humor, smiling and laughing nonstop, and everyone thrived from being around her.
She was known as a philanthropist, life-long learner, giving both her time and her resources. Gloria became heavily involved and supported Fernwood Botantical Gardens and the building of Fernwood’s new education center, The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, Hadassah, Zonta, YWCA, among many others.
Gloria was born in St Paul, MN on December 12, 1929 to the late Fred and Lena (Sadanovsky) Resnick.
She moved to South Bend at 11 years old and made amazing life-long friends. She became the first Bat Mitzvah at Sinai Synagogue, graduated from Central High School and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. Gloria married Alfred Farber in 1949 (and had three children), and married Alex Wolvos in 1976 (adding two step-children). She spent 81 years in South Bend before moving to Sarasota in 2021. Gloria truly loved life, and life loved her until the very end.
When you were born,
you cried and the world rejoiced.
You've lived your life so that when you die
the world cries and you rejoice.
