A life in numbers - Gordon Janowsky October 21, 1937 - December 18, 2024
He lived a long life, 87 years. Nearly half that time, he taught chemistry to thousands of high school students. For many, he was their favorite teacher. So he’s got that going for him, which is nice.
He rode thousands of miles on his motorcycle and played maybe that many games of scrabble and chess.
He had a few wives and a few children and even more grandchildren.
He had several Hondas and one Prius. Most of his possessions fit in that Honda Element.
He spent weeks camping and trekking, cycling and canoeing. He loved the mountains and the water.
He sang many songs and performed in some school plays.
He punned endlessly and was always on.
He told hundreds of jokes and even more stories. The canoe story was legendary, and was polished and crafted to make his students burst out in laughter with him as he told that tale over most of a class period each year.
He made us all laugh. A lot. If you counted how many times he made us laugh, well it’s countless. The biggest number of all.
It’s just one of the things we loved about him.
We will miss you Gordy. Rest in peace and go tell that canoe story on the other side.
