Harold Arthur Butler

It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and uncle. Harold Arthur Butler, 80 of Granger, Indiana. Harold passed away peacefully with his family by his side in his home on April 12, 2020.Harold was born on February 22, 1940 in Laporte, IN to the late Dale and Amanda (Butts) Butler. He graduated from Rolling Prairie High School in 1958 and went on to have a long career in the trucking industry at Wilson American Freight and Yellow Freight, until he retired in 2000. Harold married his soulmate, Martha Jill Wollert on October 21st1966 at the United Methodist Church in Laporte, Indiana. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage and made visits to the Church chapel that they were married in every year on their anniversary.He was an enthusiast of motorcycles, fast cars, collected Harley Davidson memorabilia, and loved riding his 1979 FLH Harley Davidson. He was known by name at various local restaurants and frequented the Four Wins Casino, especially enjoying the buffet with crab legs. Harold, along with his wife Marty and their children took numerous camping trips and spent many summers at Potato Creek State Park, Mini Mountain and Broken Arrow Campgrounds. Harold enjoyed fishing, playing cards and in his heyday he could bench press over 400 pounds. His grandkids referred to him as the "human torque" due to his ability to open or crush most anything with his bare hands. Harold was a gentle soul and had a caring and giving spirit. He never complained once, even though he had chronic daily pain for many years. In fact in the last hours of his life he was asking his grandkids how they were doing.Harold is survived by his wife Marty (Martha) Butler, son Brent (Jill Neely) Butler and his daughter Denise (Alan) Molnar, and grandchildren Calvin Wieczorek Spencer Wieczorek Braden Donihue, Arthur Butler, Andy Butler, Alex (Kayle McKnight) Molnar, Max Molnar, Grace Molnar, Mary Molnar and his beloved Rottweiler Bella. Harold loved spending time with his wife and two children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, family and wonderful friends.He is also survived by his brother Louie (Marie) Butler, and 3 sisters in-law Sandra Watson, Marilyn Butler and Donna Butler.Harold had many nieces and nephews who lovingly called him uncle "Arty": Carney Butler Sr, Patty (Tim) Swanson, Phyllis (John) Benson, Sherry (Bob) Younggreen, Scott Butler, Shelly (Terry) Jackson, Susie Stallcup, Penny (Eric) Wolfenbarger, Stacie (Steve) Lawrence, John (Lorrie) Churchill, Betty Diane (Eddie) Baker, Dale Churchill, David Churchill, Winston Churchill, Brenda (Floyd) Henriott, Brian (Dana) Herbst, Scott (Nancy) Herbst, Linda (Nick) Moore and David (Stacey) Watson, best friends Dave and Elaine Adams, as well as many great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by four sisters Phyllis (Charlie) Johnson, Georgia (Joe) Galloway, Betty (Dave) Churchill, Amber Butler, and two brothers Dale Butler and Carney Butler. His nephews Dan Butler, Rocky Stallcup, Ricky Johnson and two nieces Cindy Johnson and Sandy Butler. Sister in law Sheryl Herbst and his Brothers in law Jim Watson, Fred Herbst and Garth Grover.A very special thank you to the amazing Heart to Heart Hospice staff and registered nurses Michele, Lori and Maribel, as well as all the nurses (Sara, Tiffany, Randy and Jackie and many more) and the physicians at St Joseph Regional Medical Center. Thank you to some very special family friends, Nicole and Roy Anderson and Katie and Brian Polston.Due to the current Covid19 pandemic funeral services will not be held at this time, however an outreach will occur at a later date in order to plan a celebration of Harold's life with family and friends
