Jack Lee Lovitt

Jack Lee Lovitt passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the age of 86. He was born on February 2, 1935 in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Wilber John and Louetta Belle (Werntz) Lovitt.
Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois (Hostetler). They were blessed with 5 children: Jimi (Linda) Lovitt, Bobbi Gann, David (Dawn) Lovitt, Sherry Lovitt, Kelly (Cory) Smith; 8 grandchildren: Jenny (Jesse) Vance, Sarah Blake (Fiancé, Brian Harter), David Blake (Fiancé, Dawn Popovits), Breanna Giles ( Fiancé, Anthony Gartee), Hope (Josh) Stafford, Cody Smith, Paige Lovitt (Fiancé, Jason Cain), and Gracey Lovitt; 15 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Marissa, Jason, Angelina, Chase, Tori, Jordan, Aiden, Asher, Nathalie, Iris, Jared, Amehlia, Presley, and Ivy; sister; Andrea Kollars, brothers; Roger Lovitt and Chris Lovitt; several nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.
Along with his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles; Jack was preceded in death by his granddaughter Crystal Blake, his son-in-law Randy Gann, his niece Sheila Barnett and his sister Karen Pauwels.
Jack was baptized when he was 8 years old at Milburn Church of Christ. This led to his mother becoming a devout woman of faith which was a positive influence on his life. We are comforted knowing he is now with the Lord.
Jack proudly served his country in the Army as an airplane mechanic and was first in his class at aviation school. Despite his position in the Army, other than test flights, Jack swore he would never fly, and he never did. Jack became a journeyman tool & die maker and worked at Raco for 37 years before retiring in 1997. He was a proud union member and union steward throughout his career. Jack was a hard worker both in and outside of work and was always busy doing something. He instilled that work ethic in his children.
He was a member of Chain O’ Lakes Conservation Club, Bowlers Country Club and the American Legion Post 284. He enjoyed keeping his yard immaculate, bowling in his earlier years and golfing in his later years. Jack was a diehard Notre Dame fan and a lifelong avid fisherman.
Although Jack had a lot of activities he enjoyed, nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family. He loved going to his children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s school programs, awards ceremonies, plays, concerts and sporting events. He cherished our family gatherings for birthdays and all the holidays. He adored his wife, whom he affectionately referred to as “Mrs. Lovitt”, and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family meant everything to him and his love for us all was very clear.
