Jacqueline Marie (Mattingly) Beverly

February 9, 1944 — October 7, 2023

Granger

Jacqueline Marie Beverly, of Granger, Indiana, passed away following an illness surrounded by her family at Memorial Hospital on October 7, 2023.

A woman of exceptional intelligence, she was the first in her family to attend college. Awarded a full scholarship to Kent State University at the age of 17, she went on to earn both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree there, all while raising her young daughters.  A voracious reader,  her passion for knowledge was boundless and covered countless subjects; it's no wonder she was undefeatable if playing Trivial Pursuit.

Fiercely independent and self-reliant, Jacqueline faced physical adversity with equal measures of optimism and grit, exemplifying resilience and grace to those around her.

Over the course of her nearly 50 year professional career, she was guided by a commitment to social justice, equity, and equal access for all.  She held leadership positions for countless organizations including mental health facilities in East Chicago, Indiana and Tucson, Arizona,  Rush Health System in Chicago, Illinois, St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana, St. Vincent De Paul in South Bend, Indiana, and  the Veterans Administration in Southwest Michigan.  In 2019, Jacqueline  paused her retirement to serve as a Regional Community Partnership Specialist for the United States Census.

Above all, Jacqueline was a devoted mother. She treasured her family with a depth and intensity words can’t capture. Her love and self-sacrifice is a lasting legacy for each member.  Her presence in our lives was a source of endless strength, comfort, and inspiration. In her legacy,  even in the midst of life’s challenges, we embrace opportunities for laughter, and the courage and determination to pursue our dreams.

She is survived by her daughters, Michele DeStefano (Dale Dorsey), Danielle Beverly (Marco Williams) and Laura Beverly (Stephen Kraus); her grandchildren, Isabella Snyder, Dominic DeStefano, Faizal Kraus; and great grandchildren, Colton and Corbin Snyder.

A private Memorial Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church is scheduled for a future date.

Memorial contributions can be made to Beacon Health Foundation.
