James W. McCann, 90, passed away in his home August 30, 2021. Born April 14, 1931, he was the only child to the late William and Blanche (Moll) McCann.
On November 24, 1954, James married the love of his life, Dolores Wozniak. She preceded him in death in 2009.
Left to cherish his memory are four children: Daniel McCann, Michael (Angie) McCann, David (Bryan Dingler) McCann, and Susan (Randy) Staton, all of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Robert (Stephanie) Staton, Amanda (Jonathon) Yasko, Amy (Chris) Henderson, Natalie, Ryan, Cameron and Lily McCann; Taylor (Kyle) Flores, and J.R. Buda; and four great-grandchildren, Roman and Clementine Staton, and Landon and Makayla Yasko.
James was a determined and independent man until the end, even being wheelchair bound. He was devoted to his family and his country, for which he served in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1955.
James was also a man of many talents. As an avid gun collector, with guns dating back to the early 1900s, he would fix and restore guns to look and work the best they could. He was mechanically inclined and was often tinkering in the garage with a strong interest in cars and motorcycles. James was known as Mike’s mechanic for his MX racing. He also had a gift of poetry, being inspired by just about everything. He worked for Sears for 37 years and retired in 1989. He enjoyed birdwatching, gardening and spending time with his family. He was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.
He will be buried next to his wife at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. No services are being held.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses from the Center for Hospice Care for their exceptional assistance, especially Nikki, Nichol, Cathy, and Erica.
Memorial donations may be made, in James’ memory, to the Center for Hospice Care.http://www.mcgannhay.com/condolences.html
