Jane attended Eastern Illinois University where she was pursuing a degree in Speech Therapy. While there, she met her husband, Ross K Stephenson of South Bend. They were married on January 5, 1943. She was “Rose of Sigma Tau” at his fraternity, and later accompanied him to Ft. Hood, Texas when he enlisted in World War II. After the war Jane and Ross settled in South Bend where they made their home and raised their family.Jane lived a full and long life, spanning nine decades and making many friends and memories. She was an excellent whistler, and loved flowers, the sunshine, butterflies, and cats and dogs. She had a song for every occasion, and enjoyed music. Jane was a steadfast and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her legacy is the strength and the will power she has left her children.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Janie Stephenson of Edwardsburg, Martha (Mark) Walsh of Mishawaka, MaryFrances (Jeff) Powers of Indianapolis and Julie (Bob) Herwick of Cassopolis; Lois Keisling of Edwardsburg; daughter-in-law, Mary Gatto of South Bend ;eleven grandchildren: Sara, Matthew, Amy, Maggie, Rebecca, Katie, Samantha, Marti, Taylor, Paige and Claire; and twelve great-grandchildren, Conner, Cody, Cole, Emme, Douglas, Gregory, Dunning, Zuzanna, Owen, Ross, Mary Addison, and Jack. Her husband, Ross, and their son, John Stephenson preceded her in death.The family would like to thank the staffs at Heart to Heart Hospice and Wellbrooke of South Bend, for their loving and compassionate care.The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday June 20, at 1 p.m at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
