Janice Irene Smith

July 17, 1939 — March 8, 2025

Granger

Janice Irene Smith, lovingly known as Jan, passed away peacefully at her home on March 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy woven with the threads of Southern charm and familial love. Born on July 17, 1939, in the heart of Columbus, Georgia, Jan was the cherished child of Daniel Webster Cain and Nellie Vivian Wetstone, and grew up amidst the warmth and laughter of her ten siblings, shaping her quiet demeanor and deep appreciation for family gatherings.

In her years, Jan embraced the many joys life offered, from the gleam of gold jewelry and diamonds that adorned her with a glint reminiscent of her spirit, to the flavors of home-cooked meals that she lovingly prepared. She found solace in her garden, where blossoms thrived under her tender care, much like the family she nurtured with unparalleled devotion. Her love for shopping beckoned alongside occasional adventures to the glimmering casino, where luck and laughter danced hand-in-hand.

With her heart anchored in tradition, Jan was particularly fond of taking family trips to Panama City, Florida. Each journey would often weave through Georgia, where she would gather relatives of all ages—ranging from 30 to 86—creating memories that formed the tapestry of family lore. Jan's warmth and care were felt by all, as she reveled in the joy of connecting loved ones across generations.

Jan is survived by her beloved daughter, Debora Dibble; her son, Robin Smith; and the light of her life, her two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The bond she shared with each of them was a testament to her nurturing spirit, strengthening with every hug and shared smile. She is further remembered by her sister, Kathy (Ray) Hines, whose shared memories serve as a gentle reminder of their Southern upbringing and the treasured moments forged together.

Though Jan joins her 5 brothers; 4 sisters, and her esteemed parents in eternal rest, her essence will forever resonate within the hearts of those she loved. Their lives were greatly enriched by her quiet strength, vivacious spirit, and deep devotion to family. As we remember Jan, we celebrate a soul who embodied grace, warmth, and the timeless beauty of kinship.
