Jeanne Wells, 94, passed away peacefully April 8, 2021.
Born January 15, 1927 in Yazoo City, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Rozier) Anderson.
On May 10, 1947, Jeanne married the love of her life, Joseph C. “JC” Wells. He preceded her in death March 11th, 2008. She was also preceded in death by a very special aunt, Fannie (Morris) Zolot, Jeanne spent most summers with Aunt Fan in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa (Peter) Wells Deputy of Granger; grandson, Matthew (Hannah) Deputy of South Bend; and two great-grandchildren, Angelina and Wells Deputy.
Jeanne and JC moved from Tennessee to Lafayette, Indiana in 1962 and then to Elkhart in 1969. She lived a long and fulfilling life. She was outgoing and adventurous and had traveled extensively with her husband. She was an avid reader, gardener, bird watcher and contract and duplicate bridge player. She always had a toy poodle, or two, to care for in her life. She and JC wintered in Florida mainly Ft Myers Beach for over 20 years following his retirement. She enjoyed playing golf with the 9-hole group at Elcona Country Club. Jeanne thrived on community activities and was an active member and past President of Tri Kappa Philanthropic Sorority in Elkhart, and a past President of the Four Arts Club. She also served as a docent for the Midwest Museum of Art. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. She and JC shared a passion for the mission of the Shriners Club medical care for crippled or burned children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with visitation one-hour prior. A brief entombment ceremony will take place at Rice Cemetery at 2:00pm.
