Joanne Ramey

JoAnne Ramey, 75, passed away peacefully August 10, 2023.

Born January 11, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Violet (Wachowski) Bonk. Her brother, Larry Bonk, also preceded her in death.

JoAnne was married to the love of her life, Thomas Ramey, for over 50 years. He survives her. They were blessed with two children, Jeffrey (Margaret) Ramey and Jennifer (Michael) Benassi. Also left to cherish her memory are four grandchildren: Jacob and Samuel Ramey, and Natalie and Logan Benassi; two siblings, Cheryl (Steve) Kubacki and Mary Jo Bonk; and numerous extended family members and friends.

JoAnne graduated from Lincoln High School, where she was a Pom Pom Squad leader, a member of GSA, and the National Honor’s Society. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison during the excitement of the 1960s and graduated with a BA in Psychology. She then later attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with an MA in School Psychology. She had a long career in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Indiana (with PHM Schools). During the summers, her kitchen was always open to the neighborhood children for snacks and food.

JoAnne was also a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was active with the AAUW, President of the Appleton Branch, and an advocate for Title 9 and Women’s Equality. JoAnne will be remembered for her love of tennis, playing for over 50 years; for her beautiful smile, kindness, and love for her family. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 21, from 11a.m. to 12:15p.m., with a memorial service following at 12:15p.m. at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd.
