John McNarney, 81, passed away February 1st. Born January 6, 1937 in South Bend. John graduated from Indiana University and received his master's degree from the University of Notre Dame.
He worked as a Math teacher originally at Central High School and finished his career at John Adams High School. He coached many sports including baseball, wrestling, tennis and softball. He also taught driver's education. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and an enthusiastic Notre Dame women's basketball fan. He was a member of the Crypt at Notre Dame.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joyce McNarney; and parents, Hugh and Esther (Rockstroh) McNarney. Surviving are his five children, Michael (Patti) McNarney, Dave (Anne) McNarney, Paul (Wendy) McNarney, Martin (Jennifer) McNarney and Anne (Andrew) Badowski; and grandchildren, Matthew, Kelley, Alyssa, Katy, Ryan, Maddie, George, Elsa, Emma and Ellie.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am, Friday, February 9th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 226 N. Hill Street, South Bend. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 8th, from 4 to 6 pm also at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
