Orville “John” Singleton, 91, passed away November 4, 2018 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
John was born August 29, 1927 in South Bend to the late William and Loverty (Rohr) Singleton.
On August 7, 1948, John married the love of his life, Louise Hoyt. She preceded him in death. To their union they were blessed with six children: Linda Singleton of South Bend, Skip (Carol) Singleton of Hubert, NC, Larry (Patsy) Singleton of Mishawaka, Laura (Curt) Stienbarger of Warsaw, IN, and Lewis (Deb) Singleton and Lisa Singleton, both of South Bend. 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren, also survive him.
John retired from the University of Notre Dame, where he worked at the Ave Maria Press. He was a proud Navy Veteran, and a long time member of St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church. He was gifted on the organ, piano and accordion, being able to play by ear without any formal education. He was an honest and quiet man who loved his family, and relished in being a grandpa. He was dearly loved and will be missed.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 4:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, all at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd, with Fr. Terry Coonan, from Little Flower Catholic Church, officiating. Cremation will follow.
Because of the cremation, the family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
