John William Mikalian, 47, passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 26, 2017.
He was born September 24, 1970 to Charles and Carol (Peterson) Mikalian. His father, Charles; uncle, John Peterson; and sister-in-law, Mary Therese; preceded him in death.
On July 29, 1995, John married the love of his life, and his best friend, Susan Michele Nichols, who survives. To their union, they were blessed with two sons, Jackson and Samuel Mikalian, both of Granger. Also left to cherish his memory are: his mother, Carol Mikalian of Munster, IN; two siblings, Charles V. Mikalian of New Lennox, IL and Mary E. (Thomas) Mack of Lafayette, IN; aunt, Cathy Peterson of Lake Bluff, IL; nieces and nephews, Daniel and Amanda Mikalian, Jacob, Dylan, Noah, and Brady Layher; cousins, Cathy and John Peterson; sister-in-law, Michele (Michael) Layher of Niles; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gene and Barbara Nichols of Granger, IN.
John was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was very active with Harris Township Baseball Softball Association, where he was a past president, board member, commissioner and a coach. He was an Eagle Scout and a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow; and was a proud brother of Sigma Pi-Eta chapter at Purdue. He was the Marine sales manager at Elkhart Plastics, where he worked almost 20 years. John had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind heart. He was dearly loved and his loss leaves a void in the hearts of many people.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 2, from 5-8 p.m. at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., with Msgr. William Schooler officiating, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior in the church. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made at any Mutual Bank location, where the Mikalian Memorial fund has been set up to help with Jackson and Samuel's college education; or to help fund research of NMO with donations to the Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation, PO box 15185, Los Angeles, CA 90210.
