John (Jack) Wolf

John (Jack) Deming Wolf, Jr, 79 of South Bend passed away Oct. 15, 2022. Jack, to his old friends, was born Aug. 7, 1943, in Newport, RI to Rev, Dr. John D. Wolf, Sr. and Carolyn (Kelsey) Wolf during the height of WWII while his father was serving with the Navy. He is survived by his loving wife Vicki (Batson) Wolf, sons Peter Jackson Wolf (Dixon, IL), Carter Andrew Wolf (South Bend), and Tyler Jacob Wolf (partner Cody Ciesielski) of South Bend, grandson Anu John Wolf and brothers Carter Wolf, (Kim Gattle) of Indianapolis and Earl Wolf (Deborah Wolf) of Williamston, MI.
He and Vicki shared careers in counseling. At Life Treatment Center. He was a counselor to hundreds of incarcerated men who struggled with addiction. He loved their stories, and they loved his guidance.
John spent most of his fun childhood in Martinsville and South Bend where everyone knew him as Jack. He graduated from South Bend Central High School where he was on the swim team, choir, thespians, and National Honor Society. His favorite summers were family trips to Idaho and New York and later were spent as a camper and later senior staffer at his beloved YMCA Camp Eberhart where he made innumerable lifelong friends. He was the recipient of the George A Cooper Life Saving medal.
He loved to read and absorbed literature and history, making him impossible to beat at Trivial Pursuit and a great storyteller. He was always loved by friends for his pranks and laughter and as a Methodist Preacher's kid (PK) he learned mischief at an early age often with friends in the church itself.
He studied at McMurray College and George William College in Chicago where he receives his BA and MSW. He served in the US Army in Korea where he proudly escorted Mary Martin while she entertained the troops. After college he enjoyed living in the Chicago area for a few decades before returning to South Bend.
John loved music and from an early age taught his brothers about R&B, Jazz, and classical music. Thanks to the girls at Central, he was a great dancer. In his later years he became passionate about the Blues and loved it live at the "Midtown" in Mishawaka.
His biggest love was unconditionally for his wife Vicki, his three sons and grandson Anu.
A Celebration of life will be October 29th 4-6:00pm at the Howard Park Event Center, 219 S. St. Louis, South Bend 46617.
