Joseph Edward Levy, 80, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2017. He was born September 6, 1936 to the late Jake and Esther (Zoss) Levy.
On December 13, 1960, Joseph married the love of his life, Barbara Burnstine. She survives. To their union, they were blessed with two children, Jeffrey (Cathy) Levy of Berrien Springs, MI and Rhonda (Timothy) Plowman of Baldwin, MO. Also left to cherish his memory are four grandchildren, Lauren and Erica Levy and Raeanne and Tyler Plowman; and his three siblings, Judith (Ronald) Ruff, Carol Levy and Bruce Levy, all of Sarasota, FL.
Joseph was a devoted husband and father and a hard worker. He worked at Burnstine's Distributing Company for over 40 years, where he was in sales and management. He was a long time member of Temple Beth-El, a Past President and member of the Elkhart Rotary club for over 40 years, and served on the board for the Elkhart Salvation Army for 6 years.
Joseph was an avid golfer and snow skier. He was instrumental in having the South Bend Recreation Department change its rules to allow kids to play golf after 5 p.m. on weekdays and before 5 p.m. on weekends. He was also on the ski patrol at Swiss Valley Ski Resort. He was a kind and generous man. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m at Temple Beth-El, 305 W. Madison St., South Bend, IN 46601.
