Judy (Grabiner) Ziker passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on February 18, 2022. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 9, 1931 to the late Rose and Harry Grabiner. Judy is survived by her children, Peggy (Jerry) Cairo, Lynne (David) Fischgrund and David (Cheryl) Ziker; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and her late husband Mort's sister, Gloria (Ben) Golden and brother, Bob (Susan) Ziker; and many nieces and nephews.Judy met the love of her life, Mort Ziker, on a blind date arranged by Mort's sister Gloria. Six months later they were married at The Drake Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. Judy moved to South Bend as a young bride to start her new life, not knowing anyone but quickly acclimated to small town life. Judy was an only child so she relished becoming part of the extended Ziker family. Her parents visited South Bend often and Judy's South Bend family became a big part of her parent's life.Judy was a dedicated wife to her "man" Mort as he worked long hours in the family business, Ziker Cleaners for over 40 years. Judy was active in her children's lives, their schooling and athletic events. She also worked in the family business for many years in different capacities. Judy was also involved in the South Bend Jewish Community through the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley and Temple Beth El and The Temple Sisterhood. Judy was an accomplished cook and baker contributing her recipes to many sisterhood cookbooks. Those cookbooks have been passed along all over the country and many of her favorite recipes are still being made by the family to this day.Judy and Mort were married for 67 years until his death in 2019. They were lucky to have traveled the world both for business and pleasure. Travels often included Gloria and Bud Golden as well as other family members. Together they loved to entertain family and friends at their home in South Bend or at their Lake Michigan beach house. Judy made birthdays and anniversaries special celebrations.Until recently, Judy called all of her children and grandchildren on their birthdays and sang Happy Birthday to them with her special enthusiasm. The Ziker family would like to thank Judy's caregivers over the last few years. They all enhanced her life in many ways while keeping her safe and comfortable.
