Karen A. Riggs

Karen A. Riggs passed away August 26, 2017 at BellTower Health & Rehabilitation Center in Mishawaka, IN with her Family by her side.
She was born July 27, 1941 in South Bend, IN. To the late Bernard and Josephine Schloemer. Karen lived in the South Bend and Granger area all of her life and graduated from Washington Clay High School. On February 10, 1962 she married J. Morris Riggs at St Pius X Catholic Church. Morris preceded her in death on June 12, 2007. She is survived by two sons, Donald M. (Susan) and Dean E. (Peg) Riggs, both of Granger, along with four grandchildren, Emily (Brian) Czachowski, Donnie (Devin – Fiancee) Riggs, Drew and Ben Riggs and one great grandchild William Czachowski. She never had a daughter but always considered Patty (Wayne) Heflin to be her little girl. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Nancy (Larry) Humphrey, Charlene Preece, both of Mesa, Arizona and Jon (Sharon) Schloemer of Mishawaka.
Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She raised a family and worked for PHM Food Service in the Mary Frank School kitchen. She later worked with Morris as the owner/operators of Central Park Liquor in Mishawaka, IN. Karen will always be remembered as an avid crocheter and loved to make baby blankets.
Friends and family may call Tuesday, August 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. In the McGann Hay Funeral Home, Granger, and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the church. A vigil service will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Pius X Catholic Church, with Monsignor William Schoolor officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: St. Pius X Catholic Church – Building Fund, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530, Christ Child Society, P.O.
