Larry James Solloway passed away unexpectedly on the morning of June 27, 2023. He was 72.
Larry was born in South Bend, IN on May 31, 1951 to the late Robert and Lois (Geddes) Solloway.
Larry, or ‘Solloway’ as many called him, grew up in South Bend working for Associates. For a short time, he moved to Texas and helped develop the computer programming for American Airlines. After a few years there, he returned to Associates, now Citigroup, where he stayed until retirement in 2002. Larry lived with MS for more than 30 years and eventually lost the use of his legs but continued to be a strong force to reckon with.
Larry was a man all of his own. He didn’t care what you thought about him or your opinion in general. He was fair in his all-knowing attitude and was happy to educate you on why you were wrong.
He was spontaneous in giving and didn’t like to celebrate birthdays or holidays. He liked to celebrate others all year round and you could always expect a thoughtful and or questionable gift.
Larry absolutely loved people (most of the time). He found joy in helping those around him grow, fostering positive change through his “Larryism’s”, lessons that will never be forgotten. He could also be found at least one day a week taking money from his friends playing cards. Any other time, he got up around dinner time and would settle into his favorite chair in front of the tv with his kindle. Larry had a plethora of snacks and whatever he needed at his fingertips.
He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends and was happy when they left. Larry’s compulsive shopping habits often left the house full of useless items that he forced onto his friends and family boasting about how much he saved on buying 8 cases of whatever. He also enjoyed going to yard sales and haggling for the best price. The haggling also included buying cars, houses, junk and food.
Larry is survived by his wife of 20 years, Becky; children, Renee Dominiak and Pete (Jess) Kime; grandchildren, Avery, Samuel, Ryan, Nichole and Harper; great-granddaughter, Neveah; sisters, Judy Hillman and Janice Milliken; brother Richard (Sharon) Solloway; special best friend, Wayne (Marta) Francis; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Caren; and brother, Robert.
