Louis “Lou” Somogyi, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2021, at the age of 58. He was born August 8, 1962 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Louis Somogyi, Sr. and Irene Horvath.
Louis is survived by the love of his life, Amalia; step-children, Mike Vegh, Jennifer and Brandon Thomas, and Kimberly Vegh; and step-granddaughter, Noelle Thomas.
Lou graduated from Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree and started working as an Editor for Blue and Gold Illustrated in 1984; and became the Senior Editor for the publication. Lou grew up in South Bend and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church , South Bend, for more than 50 years.
Words can’t explain the generosity and kindness that Lou showed everyone he met. He dedicated his life to loving his wife, family, and writing for the Blue and Gold. Amalia was Lou’s soulmate. Lou had a great love for animals and all living things. He had a positive impact on countless lives and will be greatly missed.
Visitation for Lou will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 4-7 pm., at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 9:30 am., at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart located on the campus of Notre Dame. Lou will be entombed at Highland Cemetery in South Bend.
