Lyman C. Curtis

Lyman Charles "Curt" Curtis, 82, passed away peacefully July 13, 2017.Curt was born March 9, 1935 in Keene, New Hampshire to the late Winston and Ruth (Albee) Curtis.On September 15, 1957, Curt married the love of his life, Lillian Marie "Ginny" Botma. She survives him. To their union, they were blessed with three daughters, Robin (Brian) Hart of South Bend, Diane (Richard) Reth of South Bend, and Kimberly (Michael) Kremer of Yellow Springs, OH. Also left to cherish his memory are six grandchildren, Kevin (Katie) Hart of South Bend, Cassandra (Deven) Dreher of North Liberty, Emily and Nicholas Reth of South Bend, and Ursula and Greta Kremer of Yellow Springs, OH; and 2 great-grandchildren, Calan and Kenzi Hart.Curt graduated from George Williams College, Chicago, IL. He started his career working for the YMCA in Saginaw, MI as the camp director at Camp O-Gee-Maw-Kee. He also worked at the Niles YMCA before coming to South Bend and working as the camp director of Camp Eberhart. He cherished the memories working with the staff and the campers. His career path changed after leaving camp to insurance. He was an agent for the Brennan Insurance Agency before becoming president of Koehler Insurance Agency. The last company he worked for was Dodd Insurance Agency. Prior to retirement, his career path changed one more time to working for different security companies. The constant in all of these careers was his love of people and helping them see their true potential.He was very involved in his church as a deacon and an elder and a head usher on first Sundays. He was a Notre Dame usher for football games for several years which provided him with a lot of enjoyment. His service continued as a past president of Sertoma Club.Curt's request was to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 13th at 1:30 p.m. at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 S. Frances St. with Pastor James Miller officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 S. Frances St, South Bend, IN 46617 or to the Camp Eberhart Alumni Association, of which he was a founding director, 316 S. Eddy St., South Bend, IN 46617.
