Marcelle M. Meredith

Marcelle M. Meredith passed away peacefully in her home in South Bend, Indiana on March 8, 2022. She was 101 years old.She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harold A Meredith; her parents, Martial and Renee Jacob; her brother, Max; and sister, Andree; and sadly her son, James A. Meredith.  She is survived by her daughter Michele L MacNab of South Bend, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Julie Meredith of Cedar Springs, Michigan; and 5 grandchildren, Danielle (Robert) Basham, Richard (Heather) Abbott, Jason (Erin) Meredith, Amanda  (Ben) Wilson and Kathryn (Matt) Lovelace. She had 11 great- grandchildren-seven boys: (Adam, Jacob, Benjamin W, Ryan, Benjamin A, Miller, Edward) and 4 girls (Lindsey, Anna, Kate, Amelia.) She was beloved by her surviving siblings, Claire Kennedy and Rene Jacob; and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Europe. She will be deeply missed by all.She was a beautiful, gracious lady who survived WWII in German occupied Mons, Belgium. When the Americans liberated Mons in 1945, she was spotted cheering in the street by a young soldier who immediately lost his heart. They were married in March 1946. She left her home and family and traveled to a new country and family she did not know. The Meredith's settled in Lansing, Michigan for most of their married life.  Marcelle was a devoted Catholic who attended mass every week until the Pandemic hit and then never missed viewing on TV. She was an excellent seamstress and an avid swimmer in her younger years.  She enjoyed a glass of wine (or two) with every dinner and always had to have chocolates on hand (particularly Belgian chocolates.)A Funeral Mass for Marcelle will be held on April 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 IN-933, South Bend, IN 46637. She will then be laid to rest next to her husband at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W.
