Mark R. Smith, 63, passed away unexpectedly February 26, 2018.
Born in South Bend on June 6, 1954, he was the son of the late Robert Earl and Catherine (Toepp) Smith. His wife, Raylena Smith; and uncle, John B. Toepp, also preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Josie (Adam) Rhodes of Mishawaka and Heather (Ben) Hunter of Fishers, IN; their mom, Denise Wolfe of South Bend; three grandchildren, Alexis Rhodes and Ethan and Chase Hunter; two sisters, Sandi Smith-Flickinger of Elkart, IN and Liz Smith-Catanzarite; two aunts, Rosemary (Frank) Toepp of South Bend and Marilyn Toepp of South Bend; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mark was an avid car fanatic and woodworker. A member of the former Performance in Motion car club, he boasted about his 1974 Camaro Z28. His talent in woodworking showed in the pieces of furniture in his home, and in the toy chests he made for his grandchildren. Mark was a maintenance mechanic at Raco, Inc. and had been there over 44 years. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd., South Bend. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
