Maurice Levitt, 88, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021 at Trailpoint Village.
Maurice; his wife, Naomi; and two children emigrated from England in June, 1981 to Phoenix, Arizona. Eight years later, they moved to California, where he worked as a Homologation Engineer for a communication company. He loved to work on restoring English cars and restored 5 Triumph Spitfires. He also loved gardening and was very good at it.
In 2003, the family moved to South Bend, Indiana so they could be close to their daughter, Laura; son-in-law, Charles; and their two granddaughters, Katelyn, who is married to Gage Garwood; and their other granddaughter, Elise Nicole. Their son, David Simon Levitt, passed away in 2017. His former wife, Danielle; and their son, Gavin Simon, survive.
Their son-in-law, Charles Minx, Jr., wrote a book on Maurice’s war time experiences when he was evacuated out of London during World War II at the age of 7 to 13. The book was called “A Sandwich for the Journey.”
A graveside funeral will be held at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery on Monday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m., with Rabbi Michael Friedland officiating.
