Mildred June Pope, age 92, of South Bend, Indiana passed away in her home on December 14. She was married to James Carl Pope, age 87, who preceded her in death on November 30, 2016. Both Mildred and James were born Salinas, California. They were both surrounded by family at the time of passing.James and Mildred are survived by their three children, Jo Ann (the late James) Ross of Lansing, IL, James (Bobbie) Pope of Norco, CA, and Rene (Steven) Barnett of Elkhart, IN. They were blessed with many grandchildren: Joshua (Deborah) Strong, Shawna (Michael) Seigel, Stephanie (the late Larry) Kapp-Schaible, Devona (Todd) Garrigus, Andrea Mosiej, and Stephen Murphy. They also had several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren too. Mildred and James adored all of them and the feeling was mutual.James and Mildred met in Salinas, California, and were married on October 22, 1952. They celebrated over 60 years of marriage together, but still acted like two teenagers in love. James and Mildred both worked in Retail Sales. Mildred paved the way for women everywhere becoming one of the first female managers for JCPenney. They both retired from JCPenney after winning numerous awards for Top Salesmanship and Customer Service. They were two of the most amazing people you could have ever met!Though their family misses them terribly, they are also celebrating that James and Mildred are together again.They spent many years in Palm Desert, California and per their request, both will be buried in Palm Springs, CA next to Sonny Bono and Frank Sinatra.
