GRANGER – Patricia A. Karaszewski (Quarles), 90 years old, passed away on April 22, 2017 in Granger, Indiana. She was a great model of independence and resilience to all those who knew her, loved her and will remember her forever.Patricia Anne Quarles was born in South Bend, IN to Andrew and Cyrene Quarles on February 22, 1927. She married Ted Karaszewski on June 12, 1948 at St. Matthews Cathedral. Pat had four children and was a homemaker for most of her married life. Later, she entered the work force and became a successful restaurant manager running several local eateries including Heap Big Beef, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Azar’s Big Boy. She had an exuberance for life, loved playing tennis, was an avid reader and had a biting sense of humor.Pat was an active member of the St. Pius Catholic Church in Granger. With God’s blessings she found peace, confidence, and dignity to overcome many of life’s struggles. Patricia’s passion for helping others and her grace and courage throughout her long fight with Alzheimer’s showed true grit and the greatness of this woman and mother. Patricia is in heaven where there is perfect joy and beauty and she is at peace. She will be dearly missed.Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Cyrene Quarles; her sisters, Barbara and Wanda, her niece, Valerie Gall and her former husband, Ted Karaszewski.Patricia was devoted to her family and is survived by her son, Daniel Karaszewski and his wife, Karen of Carl Junction, MO; her son, Larry Karaszewski and his wife, Emily of Los Angeles, CA; her daughter, Shari Stogsdill and her husband, Roger of Peru, IN; her daughter, Debbie Bernhard of Mishawaka, IN; her grandchildren: Kasey Conklin-Karaszewski of Wylie, Texas, Kerri Kiracofe of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Jack Karaszewski of Los Angeles, California, Carver Karaszewski of Los Angeles, California, Jimmy Bernhard of Mishawaka, Indiana, Amy Hayden of Orlando, Florida and Angie Betzner of Peru, Indiana; her ten great-grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews including Jackie Haenes and Andy "Del" Burke.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Parish in Lakeville, IN, at 10:30am Wednesday with Rev. John Delaney, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, next door to the church in Lakeville. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Tuesday at McGann Hay University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd., South Bend were the Holy Rosary will be prayed at 4pm.
