Patricia Luecht

Mrs. Patricia K. (Galloway) Luecht, 70 of Danville IN and Birch Lake, Vandalia, MI, passed away suddenly in the early morning of Friday June 23, 2023 at her summer home at her beloved Birch Lake.

Patty was born in Mishawaka, IN on December 8,1952 to the late Clyde King Galloway and Margaret (Scanlan) Galloway.  She married the love of her life William A. “Bill” Luecht in Elkhart, IN on June 8, 1991, who survives.  “Bad Patty” as she affectionately  referred to herself along with many of her Michigan friends, received a BA from and was a proud Alumnus of Indiana University, Bloomington.  Patty loved IU Basketball, IU Football and the Indianapolis Symphony where she, Bill and their son John were season ticket holders.  She retired in 2015 as a Teacher’s Aide and Librarian at the Danville Community School Corporation.

Patty and Bill were blessed with two children: Katherine M. “Katie” Luecht of West Lafayette, IN, and John C.K. Luecht of Danville.  Both will cherish her memory forever.  Also surviving are two sisters: Karen Motes of West Palm Beach, FL and Claudia “Peanut” Skoczyas of Ft. Wayne, IN, as well as a cousin, Leroy (Curley) Oswalt of Union, MI.

Patty was a Past Commodore and current Board Member of the Birch Lake Yacht Club.  In addition, for the last many years she ran the Sailing Racing Committee Boat for the Sunday MC and Sunfish sailing fleets.  If there was a Mayor of Birch Lake, it would certainly have been “Bad Patty.”  She was the heart and soul of the lake community and was always quick to volunteer for any, and all the events and projects.  The pride of her life and her “happy place” she always said was the famous Flamingo Room at her cottage and Birch Lake.   She was a huge Beatles fan, a confirmed liberal and environmentalist.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 4-7 pm, at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 enter off Cherry Rd. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11am with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. John Railton will be officiating.  Cremation will follow and she will be returned to her beloved Birch Lake.
