Patricia Elaine Mitchell

d. November 3, 2018

Patricia Elaine Mitchell, 79 of South Bend, Indiana, formerly Patricia Elaine Green of Newburyport, MA, was called home to her heavenly father on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018. She was born to the late Theresa B. Green and Harold Everett Green on Valentines Day 1939. She was a wife to her late husband, John J. Mitchell of Ipswich, MA."Patsy," as she was affectionately called, is survived by her three children – Cheryl Hughes of Hampstead, NH, Andrew Golden of Raleigh, NC and Michael Mitchell of South Bend, IN; as well as 4 grandchildren - Alex Hughes, Connor Golden, Sarah Golden and Nathaniel Golden. She is also survived by her siblings, Joyce Picariello, Rita Hood and Paul Green. Harold Green (2012) and Barbara Carroll (2018) were two siblings that passed away.Patsy attended Immaculate Conception High School in Newburyport, MA, graduating in 1957. She later attended North Shore Community College in Beverly, MA from 1976-1978 and completed an LPN nursing program at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA in 1981. Patsy worked at the Colonial Country Club in Lynnfield, Massachusetts for 20+ years as well as getting her hair dressing license and Real Estate broker license in Massachusetts. In the mid 1990’s, Patsy got her Hairdressing license in Indiana so she could practice and cut hair. Even though my mother was a hairdresser, I still had to make an appointment to get my hair done and sometimes having to take my mother out to eat for payment. My mother made a joke one day that she had so many jobs that it took several pieces of paper to get them all done for tax purposes.Patsy worked several jobs at once to pay for her children’s private education as well as making sure she had hot cooked meals on the table every night as well as a place to live. Patsy put her children’s best interests first over herself, and she continued with those beliefs for all of her life. Family was the most important thing for Patsy.Patsy treasured her lifelong friendships with her co-workers and dear friends at the Colonial in Lynnfield, MA and traveled back home to Massachusetts each year to visit with her friends and family. Most recently, she met with classmates from her high school class of 1957 and was thrilled to see her friends and share memories.Patsy would meet up every year with her vacation companion her niece Marie Rikkola. Patsy always enjoyed meeting up with her grand niece Terry Esposito and her long time friend Roger LeVasseur as well as her list of friends and relatives that went on and on. A cute saying that Patsy would say.."bring me that thing", or "give me that thing"…never calling the thing by its name. Ha HaFrom the time Mike Evans met Patsy, a close friendship was bonded. Patsy referred to Mike as Mikey and thought the name was cute. Patsy was like a replacement sister for the one Mikey lost when she passed away several years before. Mikey looked up to Patsy as a mentor and counseled him when he was in need.Ever the Renaissance woman, she was often found exploring new realms of interest. Patsy had a deep passion for music, composing beautiful songs and lyrics with her piano and captivating family and friends with her piano and singing - She sounded incredibly like her favorite singer, Patsy Cline. Patsy wrote, composed and did all the lyrics to 20+ songs. It was amazing how my mom could write a beautiful song in just a few short hours. Mom was very gifted with whatever she did. Patsy loved to entertain people. She was also a gifted artist and children’s book author, writing and illustrating several children stories. Mom used to do all my artwork in school, which I got high praise for even though I could only draw stick figures. Her love for people was matched by her love for animals. Patsy became mom to many orphaned cats, dogs, squirrels, birds and many outside critters. They were an important part of her family. Mom would never kill bugs but would always have a place on the many window ledges around the house and have a few small drops or water and some food. Mom would refer to them as God’s creatures. Mom wasn't one to be defined by a single word or phrase. Mom was in many ways, bigger than life. How much we will miss her… how much she will be missed by so many.Mom would often share her faith with family and friends... even strangers, although we often joked with mom that she never knew a stranger. Mom would always feel bad for people on the streets holding up signs saying they were homeless, out of work or had no food. Mom would often give them money even if Mom could not afford it. Mom always put everyone before her self as well as putting off something she was saving for.She had a great love for Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary and wanted others to know and share in this love for our Lord and His mother. We love you mom and you will remain forever in our hearts and in our prayers.A Catholic burial service for the remains of Patsy will take place sometime in the spring of 2019 at Holy Cross Cemetery located at 54 South Saint Clement Ave (Grave: Q-61) in Malden, Massachusetts. Patsy will be buried with her Mother & Grandmother. My soul waits in silence for God only. From Him is my salvation (PS 46:1)
