Patricia Ann Murray

Patricia Ann (Cain) Murray passed away on November 14, 2021. Pat was born July 16, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana to Dr. Edgar and Mamie Cain as the second of six children. Pat is survived by her six children: William Murray (Gloria Popovich), Kathy Murray Putta (Jack), Tim Murray (Kathy), Ann Cole (Keith Heil), MJ Murray Vachon (Dominic) and Colleen Scholtes (David). Pat has 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Kathleen Lawton and James Cain, sister- and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Martin Rosinski, and 52 nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 62 years, Tom, her parents and her sisters, Fran, Charlotte and Liz. Her commitment to family never wavered and her calm and steady presence provided an invaluable foundation for those under her care. With what appeared to be effortless ease, she provided many memories for this large family throughout her nine decades of life.Pat graduated from Niles High School and Saint Mary's College. She majored in education and taught in the South Bend Schools until she took on her life's work of raising children and partnering with her husband, Tom on their many shared commitments. She was active at St. Pius X parish for more than 60 years serving the parish in various capacities. She was involved in Reins of Life, Christ Child, Logan Center, and Granger Women's Riding Club. She was also past President of Alumni Club at Saint Mary's College.After raising six children, countless cats, dogs and horses, Pat became successful in local real estate sales as a top-producing realtor for Coldwell Banker for several years before retiring in 1994. She was also a partner in Woodfield Downs, Inc., a real estate company that developed several Granger subdivisions, including Woodfield Downs, Bridlewood and Harris Crossings. Pat and Tom hosted many gatherings of family and friends on the farm, including office picnics for Barnes & Thornburg and ND Law School Class Reunions. Pat was never the life of the party, but she was the one that made the party happen in her kind, gracious, and effortless way. Her sister Kate once said, "Pat was kind and perpetually content," which may best describe her beautiful and peaceful spirit.Her legacy includes raising children who remain close and supportive of one another. Her children are grateful to the community at Holy Cross Village, which provided warmth and support to Pat in the seven years since Tom's death. The family is appreciative for the Senior One caregivers, especially Jeff Zwart, Fran English, and Lena Simpson-Perkins, who allowed Pat to remain independent and loved until her last day. We also are grateful to Victoria and the Center for Hospice for the medical guidance provided.Services will be at St. Joseph's Chapel, which is the chapel on the Holy Cross College Campus, on Thursday, November 18 at 2:30 PM. The Chapel is located at 54515 State Rd. 933 Notre Dame, IN 46556. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM in the Chapel.
